Awareness Officers Qualification
– taking action against abuse of power
The new Event Act for Vienna was passed in the Vienna State Parliament on 24.04.2025, and the part concerning Awareness became active as of 01.07.2026
We recommend qualifying at least two people per structure/organization, and at least four people for structures with many events and a high number of participants.
The suggested contribution amounts for participation are tiered, to make participation possible for non-profit and/or precarious structures as well.
Next training date: August 12th and 13th of 2026
What is the training for Awareness Officers?
The training for Awareness Officers is aimed at people who take on responsibility within their structure for implementing the Awareness concept. They act as points of contact should errors or violations occur, and they keep this area of responsibility in view. The training conveys the related foundational knowledge as well as ways of handling the specific responsibilities and tasks arising from the new Event Act.
In 16 hours, we teach the fundamentals, principles, and practice of Awareness work – from consent and partiality to points of contact, developing violence protection and Awareness concepts, questions around funding, and roles related to Awareness work.
Individual dedicated dates for a larger group can be requested in English, or if you are interested in a spot in English, you can write to bildung@awa-stern.info. We will get in touch once enough people have registered interest/demand, and we will then find a date together.
The new Event Act for Vienna was passed in the Vienna State Parliament on 24.04.2025, and the part concerning Awareness will become active as of 01.07.2026. The law does not provide for any statutory minimum qualifications for the role of Awareness Officers. As a structure that has worked on this topic for many years, we advocate for a qualification and issue a recommendation.
The scope of the training, with its 16 hours, is comparable to qualifications for child and youth protection officers or the first aid qualification for company first responders.
A certificate of attendance is issued for participation in the training.
The training will currently only take place in German.
