Awareness Basics
Introduction to awareness work, with focus on understanding its principles, addressing boundary violations, violence, and discrimination, and providing support specifically centered around an individuals’ needs.
Participants learn the basics of being part of an awareness team, including minimum standards and the roles, limits, and possibilities of the work.
Completion of the training qualifies participants for awareness teams, though further experience within established teams is recommended.
The workshop offers a small introduction to the subject area and provides insight into the terms and theoretical concepts that are important in awareness work. During the workshop, common terminology will be defined and explained. Concepts such as the power of definition, partisanship, and support work will be covered. Terms like "perpetrator" and "affected person" will be clarified, as well as the concept of triggers.
The workshop will involve a critical examination of sexist behavior, discrimination, the power of language, the restriction of individuals' freedom, and solidarity in celebrations. It will address questions such as how we can provide good support when we witness incidents of abuse without being experts ourselves, or what we can do when we are affected by discrimination and/or violence.
Through awareness work, we create a framework to systematically counteract these restrictive behaviors and, in doing so, establish a collective, supportive, and mindful space.
We will work together to understand what this means for us in practice—in friendships, at parties, in associations, and within organizational life. This includes the practical organization of support and assistance work.
No prior knowledge on the subject is required for the workshop.
