Zwei Mitglieder des Awareness Kollektivs AwA* berichten über das Pilotprojekt, das im Sommer 2021 in Wien stattgefunden hat. Bei dem Projekt wurden im Zeitraum von 7 Wochen rund 14.000 Personen via mobiler Teams an öffentlichen Feierorten erreicht. Wir geben zuerst eine Übersicht über das Arbeitsfeld und Einblick in die Auswertung des Projektes. Im Input zeigen wir, wie wir Awareness Konzepte auf die Konfliktstruktur und Gefahren, die es im Kontext von Nacht und Abendstunden im öffentlichen Raum gibt, angepasst haben. Wir erzählen, was es dann in der Praxis bedeutet hat parteilich für vulnerable Gruppen wie Kinder und Jugendliche, queere Personen, junge Frauen, und BIPOC Personen da zu sein und diese bei Konflikten im öffentlichen Raum zu supporten. Es gibt zudem einen Einblick in die begleitende und vorhergehende politische Arbeit und das Aushandeln des Projektes auf städtischer Ebene. Wir wollen angesichts dessen, dass nun in mehreren Städten andere, kontrollpolitisch und nicht emanzipatorisch ausgerichtete Projekte angedacht oder umgesetzt werden, überlegen, ob und inwieweit es sinnvoll ist, das Projekt in anderen Städten einzubringen und umzusetzen.

_willi Hejda … ist (Gegen)Kulturarbeiter_in aus Wien. They ist seit Jahren zwischen, für und in selbstverwalteten und emanzipatorischen Kontexten tätig. They veranstaltet für verschiedene Locations, und macht Bildungsarbeit zu Themen wie partizipativen (selbst-)organisieren, Recht auf Stadt und Awareness Themen. _willi ist Teil des Kernteams der AwA* und war im Sommer viel im öffentlichen Raum unterwegs.
Magdalena Brcina … ist Lehramtsstudierende an der Universität Wien. Sie hat im Sommer aktiv das Awareness Projekt im öffentlichen Raum unterstützt und ist seit kurzem festes Teammitglied der AwA*.

Wir haben seit diesem Jahr ein neues gefördertes Projekt „support fx – schnittstelle für awareness“, in dem unser Fokus auf Vernetzungsarbeit von bestehenden Awareness- und Antisikriminierungsgruppen, Bildungs- sowie Interventionsarbeit liegt.

Awareness in public space
Evaluation, experiences, and future perspectives

Two members of the awareness collective AwA* report about the pilot project that took place in Vienna in summer 2021. The project reached about 14,000 people via mobile teams in public party spots over a period of 7 weeks. We first give an overview of the field of work and insight into the evaluation of the project. In the input we show how we adapted awareness concepts to the conflict structure and threats that exist in the context of night and evening hours in public spaces. We tell what it means in practice to be there for vulnerable groups like children and youth, queer persons, young women, and BIPOC persons and to support them in conflicts in public space. It also provides insight into the accompanying and foregoing political work and negotiation of the project at the city level. In light of the fact that other projects are now being considered or implemented in several cities that are oriented towards control politics rather than emancipation, we want to consider whether and to what extent it makes sense to bring in and implement the project in other cities.
Lecture/Input by:
_willi Hejda … is a (counter)cultural worker from Vienna. They have been working between, for and in self-managed and emancipatory contexts for years. They organize for different locations, and do educational work on topics like participatory (self-)organizing, right to the city and awareness issues. _willi is part of the AwA* core team and has been out and about in public space a lot this summer.
Magdalena Brcina … is a student of teaching at the University of Vienna. She actively supported the awareness project in public space during the summer and recently became a core team member of AwA*.
