AwA* Activities: What We Do

Awareness in Public Spaces

With funding from the City of Vienna (MA 13), we have been actively engaged in awareness work in public spaces in Vienna since 2021.

In 2025, we were active in public spaces from May 9 to September 20, on Fridays, Saturdays, and the evenings before public holidays, from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Locations:
Danube Canal (from the Urania to shortly after the Augartenbrücke) Karlsplatz and Resselpark in the Stadtpark
Around the Ring (Heldenplatz, between the museums on Maria-Theresien-Platz, Schwedenplatz, Votivpark)
Wientalterrasse

The Awareness Team is mobile and there for you in situations when …

You feel overwhelmed.
You don’t want to or can’t intervene yourself.
You feel uncomfortable for any reason.
Someone discriminates against you or treats you poorly, for example, by being racist, sexually harassing you, or being verbally or physically aggressive.

Events

As an Awareness Team, we provide support for events. Indoor, outdoor, festivals, and conferences – we can support all types of gatherings of many people with teams on-site and in pre- and post-event preparations.

Educational Work

We are happy to share our knowledge of awareness work. We offer workshops for further education and can tailor our offerings to specific needs and questions. Some examples of workshops and the areas covered by our educational offerings can be found under -> Workshops.

Concepts and Consultation

Different needs require different solutions. We develop concepts and provide consulting services for various issues. For example: awareness concepts for spaces, conflict resolution structures for groups, conflicts in public spaces.

In recent years, there has been an increasing awareness and understanding of the need for awareness structures. As AwA* groups, collectives, structures, and communities, we can support in establishing their own awareness structures.

Awareness-Standards Vernetzungstreffen 20. März 2025 in Wien

Networking and Standards for Awareness Work in Austria

With support from the Austrian Ministry of Social Affairs (BMSGPK), we have been strengthening collaboration between organizations engaged in awareness work in Austria since 2024. Together, we are developing shared standards for our field on the basis of solidarity and collective responsibility.
